Carson Samson
Carson Samson is a Winnipeg-based mixed media artist specializing in birds and wildlife. A graduate of the University of Manitoba School of Fine Arts (with honours). Carson blends traditional techniques with contemporary materials, working primarily in alcohol-based Copic markers and coloured pencils. Alongside his artistic practice, he brings over 25 years of experience in communications and marketing.
Carson returned to drawing in 2014, fifteen years after graduating from art school. His father passed away, and he loved birds, so he started drawing them. Drawing became a way to grieve and use art as therapy. Carson uses alcohol-based Copic markers and coloured pencils. They allow him to build layers, slow down, and be at peace.
Birds are a constant presence in his work. Birds give Carson hope: despite lacking every human comfort, they still sing.
