Michael Joyal
Canadian artist Michael Joyal earned his B.F.A. in 1993 from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. He lives and works in Winnipeg, MB.
Michael’s work draws the viewer into a world of wonder and mystery, where the divine and darkness live together in unexpected places. His current work focuses on themes of solitude and abandonment inspired by the pandemic. His work features abandoned structures, industrial landscapes, and robots, with and without solo figures that are set apart from the scenery.
He works in pen and ink, watercolour, acrylic and collage. He tells stories through the juxtaposition of disparate images.
He has exhibited in group & solo shows in North America. His work is held in the permanent collection at the International Cryptozoology Museum and the Legislative Library of Manitoba.
Michael is influenced by modern illustrators and classic artists ranging from Dave McKean & Nick Bantock to Mucha, Wyeth and J.W. Waterhouse.
